Afficionado Coffee will be featured at the Faema Art & Caffeine Popup June 24-29 from 10:00AM – 4:00PM. Faema will be serving Bolivian Finca Buena Vista for pour overs and Espresso Afficionado for espresso. The popup is located at 198 Allen Street in New York City.
Afficionado is one of 16 roasters chosen for the four-week explorative and informational cafe concept popup that showcases Faema’s innovations in espresso machine technology. The popup is also a hub where baristas and roasters can collaborate over a shared passion and develop their craft.
During the day, the popup operates as a normal cafe. An array of classes, workshops and discussions surrounding the coffee industry take place in the evenings. 100% of the popup’s proceeds from prepared beverages are donated to Coffee Kids, an organization that empowers young coffee farmers to create thriving businesses and a sustainable future for them and their families.
“Coffee Kids uses entrepreneurship training, mentorship, and seed capital to help young farmers see themselves as entrepreneurs, develop the skills to launch their own businesses, and connect to the global coffee industry.” More information can be found on their website, www.coffeekids.org
The mission of Coffee Kids is close to the heart of Afficionado who committed to direct trading in 2012 and has worked exclusively with 13 farms since then. Producers can rely on Afficionado to purchase their product year-round, every year, so they can have a sustainable future. Afficionado is committed to farmers. For example, in Bolivia, they help farmers create new revenue streams through the harvest of coffee byproducts like coffee blossoms and cascara. And in Honduras, they built the first school house in Marcala with computers and purchased new shoes for all of the local children (over 60 students) who attend the school every year.
Faema is a world leader in the production of professional machines for espresso coffee beverages. They offer innovative products for commercial professional use. Faema was established in 1945 in Milan by Carlo Ernesto Valente. They strive to, “equip baristas all over the world with a range of machines that amaze and assist them. Because we want to emphatically and clearly communicate the idea that we support coffee lovers and we believe that those who work with passion and determination deserve all our efforts.”
