    Arturo Gelpke was born and raised in Cobán, Guatemala and later moved to Guatemala City. He desired to return to his hometown to be a farmer, but life didn’t allow him to do so until after the birth of his second son, Walter. In 1970, Mr. Gelpke met a German who was selling land in Cobán for a fair price. This was Mr. Gelpke’s opportunity to fulfill his dream, so he bought the land and began planting coffee. He encouraged his three sons to pursue agriculture, sending them to the farm every Friday after school. As a result of Mr. Gelpke’s efforts, Walter decided to study Agriculture. Now, after Mr. Gelpke’s death, his two oldest sons care for the farm in honor of their father and his legacy.
